The Project
Problem
Novice and Intermediate climbers do not know how to properly train for rock climbing.
Goal
This application aims to help dedicated rock climbers improve, through proper training, technique and recovery. Create personalized training plans, log climbing sessions, and learn recovery methods to get you back on the wall.
SOlution
Create an application that pairs with a smartwatch that will guide users through proper training & workouts.
Research
I was able to find Eric J. Hörst’s Training for Climbing, which is probably the best book for climbing-specific training out there, and he does a fantastic job of presenting exercises that target different areas of rock climbing. As a climber myself, I looked for ways to improve my climbing outside of reading books and was able to come across a variety of different applications. So I did a quick competitive analysis to see the pros and cons of each app and how it could help me improve my climbing.
Competitive Landscape
As my climbing started to progress I started to look for applications that might help push me to the next level of climbing. I found a few applications that focused on specific exercises like hang boarding or they were limited to only tracking your rock climbing sessions. So I felt there was always a missing connection between training for climbing and tracking your progress during sessions.

Flow Development
Wireframes
I translated the flows into sketches and then into wireframes to start to visualize what the screens may look like. I wanted to create interaction patterns so the application would be easy to use and create habits for the user.
What does CLIMBR do?
Develops Personalized Workout Routines
Climbers can take a climbing assessment to gauge their current level of mental, technical, and physical strength. Climbr will then create a personalized workout to target weak areas in their climbing. Exercises focusing on improving different areas of climbing, from technique and muscle recovery to fear management.
Guided Workouts
Using haptic vibration, CLIMBR will guide users through each exercise. Vibrating patterns indicate to users when to start and stop, switch hands, and act as a timer.
Climbing Tracker
Use a smartwatch to log climbing sessions to progress over time.
